Cheesemaking 101

Saturday, 31 July 2010 in Darfield

Saturday, 14 August 2010 in West Melton

Time: 10:30 am-1:00 pm

Cost: $50.

Booking essential. Each session is the same, so it is not necessary to attend both. This is a fundraiser for the Canterbury Dairy Goat Breeders Association, with a portion of the proceeds to go to the club for its pursuits in educating the public about goat husbandry as well as promoting the improvement of dairy goats.

Learn the basics of at-home cheesemaking and take home a batch of your own feta cheese. This small hands-on session is limited to 12 people so that everyone will be able to make their own cheese.  Some basic utensils are necessary (tea towels, pots, sharp knife etc.)

Andrea Gauland, the instructor, has been milking goats and making goats’ milk cheeses for ten years. Please contact Andrea on 03 312 1203 or tehuafarm@no8wireless.co.nz (tehuafarm null@null no8wireless NULL.co NULL.nz) today for more information or to book for the session.

The goats are highly intelligent and full of personality.

Goat Field Day (open to the public)

Saturday, 2 October 2010 in Oxford (Time and further details to come)

This is an event only held every two years, so don’t miss it this time! Even if you don’t have any goats yet, this is your chance to see a goat farm, meet plenty of goats, listen to an interesting talk on goats, and have a chat with friendly goatkeepers. There will be some fun such as a silent auction, too. You are sure to see gorgeous kids that have just been born. So keep your diaries open for Saturday the 2nd of October, and watch this space!
